We revived Saturday Story Time last weekend, with special guest Elizabeth Balaguer reading from her recent book The Secret of Smiling. Tomorrow we’ll be hosting the VIPs (Very Important Parents) from Literacy INC. Please join us this—and every—Saturday, 12–1pm, for Story Time!

Tonight: The Led Black Book Club featuring AJ Sidransky

The-Led-Black-Book-Club-Forgiving-Maximo-Rothman-AJ-SidranskyThe last Face Out reading of this month is hosted by Led Black of Uptown Collective, who’s held installments of the Led Black Book Club at Word Up since our first month in existence, and who’s helped us out in many other ways too. Led will be presenting AJ Sidransky, whose book Forgiving Máximo Rothman delves into the author’s own family history to tell a tale that stretches from Hitler’s Europe, to Trujillo’s Dominican Republic, to the former Soviet Union, to Washington Heights. Word Up Community Bookshop/Librería Comunitaria is pleased to announce a new reading series, Face Out, presenting literary readings on (most) Thursdays. We are ecstatic to kick off the series on September 12, 7pm, with a reading by MIRIAM MEJÍA, founder of Casa Camila Verde, who will be reading new stories from Matices, published in the Dominican Republic. With a Q&A led by Jenny K Perdomo. This reading will be in Spanish.

Nos place enormemente poder lanzar la serie este 12 de septiembre, 7pm, con una lectura por MIRIAM MEJÍA, fundador de Casa Verde Camila y autora de varios libros que incluyen Matices. Conversación conducida en español por Jenny K. Perdomo. Esta lectura será en español.

Urban Acrobatics: A Circus and Graffiti Spectacular
