April 26 – Power to the Parents

Are you a new or expecting parent?

Do you have questions about birth or newborn care? Are you trying to figure out what kind of birth setting is best for you? Do you want to learn more about how to work together with your medical caregiver? Are you looking for a safe space to process your birthing experience? Do you need help with breastfeeding? Do you want to try on some baby carriers or learn how to adjust your carrier to your body? Or do you just want to meet and hang out with other parents?

Come to POWER TO THE PARENTS! Community Perinatal Support at Word Up Community Bookshop. Get the information you need and enjoy tea, cookies, and community with fellow parents and experienced perinatal professionals. Se habla espanol.

mnBest-selling author and bio-mechanist Katy Bowman deepens her “you are how you move” message in her new book Movement Matters: Essays on Movement Science, Movement Ecology, and the Nature of Movement. Bowman will present the key ideas in her new book—that we can improve our own health, and the health of our planet and our communities just by moving our own bodies more—and will answer questions and sign books.

C.A. Conrad & Dorothea Lasky en español: *El libro de Frank* y *Pájaro del trueno*

Join Triana Editorial and the poets as we celebrate the release of the Spanish editions of C.A. Conrad’s *The Book of Frank* and Dorothea Lasky’s *Thunderbird.* Each poet will read from their original text while the translator of *The Book of Frank*, Jacob Steinberg, and Triana’s editorial director Alejandro Jorge will read from the corresponding Spanish versions. Copies of both books will be available, as well.

Triana Editorial lxs invita a festejar el lanzamiento de las traducciones españolas de* El libro de Frank* de C.A. Conrad y *Pájaro del trueno* de Dorothea Lasky. Los poetas leerán de los textos originales, y el traductor de *El libro de Frank*, Jacob Steinberg, y el editor jefe de Triana, Alejandro Jorge, leerán de los textos traducidos. También va a haber copias de los dos libros a la venta.

DOROTHEA LASKY is the author of four books of poetry, most recently *ROME* (W.W. Norton/Liveright, 2014), as well as *Thunderbird*, *Black Life*, *AWE*, all out from Wave Books. She is the co-editor of *Open the Door: How to Excite Young People About Poetry* (McSweeney’s, 2013) and several chapbooks, including *Poetry is Not a Project* (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2010). Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Poetry at Columbia University’s School of the Arts, co-directs Columbia Artist/Teachers, and lives in New York City.

C.A. CONRAD’s childhood included selling cut flowers along the highway for his mother and helping her shoplift. The author of 9 books of poetry and essays, the latest is titled While Standing In Line For Death and is forthcoming from Wave Books (September 2017). He is a Pew Fellow and has also received fellowships from Lannan Foundation, MacDowell Colony, Headlands Center for the Arts, Banff, RADAR, Flying Object and Ucross.
