We host events/programs almost every day at Word Up. Click here to look at our calendar. Check out each program’s page for more information.
Some are weekly, such Open Mic, No Name, Story Time for Kids, Face Out Literary Thursdays, Tutor Tuesdays, Craft Camp, Let’s Read, and Quisqueya Aprende Contigo Plan Nacional de Alfabetizacion. Our longest-running weekly program is the teen writing/theater program Voices: Our Young People Speak, which is developed in collaboration with People’s Theatre Project.
Some are one-time special events, such as the numerous readings, concerts, plays, screenings, talks, and workshops that we either program ourselves or host in association with other organizers in our community.
Some are one-time special events that we organize off-site, in a space that can accommodate an audience bigger than our cozy bookstore can hold, such as Junot Díaz at the United Palace, or the NoMAA Literary Grantee Reading at X Caffe.
Some are yearly events that are big collaborations with neighboring organizations, such as Uptown Lit: A Festival of Readers and Writers.
