February 6- #DignidadLiteraria Town Hall: Writing Against the White Gaze

#DignidadLiteraria Town Hall: Writing Against the White Gaze, hosted by Dominican Writers Association (DWA), New York City Latina Writer’s Group (NYCLWG), and Word Up Community Bookshop Librería Comunitaria.

Authors, activists and communities from New York City will host a town hall as part of #DignidadLiteraria’s national call to action around the crisis in U.S. publishing exposed by the controversy and developments surrounding the publication of Jeanine Cummins’s novel, American Dirt. The actions come on the heels of the powerful community response that is challenging publishing giants like Oprah Winfrey, Flatiron Books, and other powerhouses of the U.S. publishing industry to be accountable for the dismal state of the industry’s commitment to Latinxs in the United States.

Participating in the town hall are panelists, leaders, writers, authors, readers, and members of the Dominican Writers Association and the NYC Latina Writers Group.

July 26 – C@P Book Club presents Willie Perdomo

Join the C@P Book Club #3 for a conversation on The Crazy Bunch by Willie Perdomo, with the poet himself, at Word Up on Friday, July 26 at 6:30pm.

The Creatives at Play (C@P) Book Club is where creatives and art lovers get together to talk literature over wine.

Don’t miss out on what is sure to be a special night with one of the dopest poets of all time still changing the game with every book he drops.

About the book:
Twenty years after the release of Where a Nickel Costs a Dime changed how we read and recite poetry, Perdomo is back with The Crazy Bunch, a novella in verse that tells the story of a crew from El Barrio, Harlem.

In a style that gets you bobbing your head whether you’re reading or hearing it, Perdomo has you experience everything from Santeria ceremonies to C.O.P.S. interrogations, making you part of the crew.
