June 6 – Ryan Schulte’s Notes on Water and Blood

Join us for a virtual launch of Ryan Schulte’s first nonfiction chapbook, “Notes on Water and Blood” (Greying Ghost Press, 2020). Bruce Springsteen, whose fan base includes a lot of cops, wrote a protest song called “41 Shots (American Skin)” about the murder of Amadou Diallo in 1999. When he and the E. Street Band played it at Madison Square Garden, people literally turned their backs to the stage.

Schulte uses “American Skin” to talk about his upbringing in Southeastern Nassau County and the use of protest art.

A reading from “NOWB” and some new work will be followed by Q&A and a digital reception.

Ryan Schulte is a graduate of Macaulay Honors College @ CUNY Hunter College and a former volunteer at Word Up Community Bookshop/Librería Comunitaria. He is currently at work on a novel.
