Word Up in 2017

Days open to the public: 296
Number of readings, concerts, screenings, workshops, open mics, and gallery shows: 278
Volunteer hours logged: 8,000+
Books circulated: 14,500+

It takes an enormous, joyous neighborhood-wide effort to maintain Word Up as a space for expression and communion, education and care
—as we have for the past 6 years.

Please make a donation to Word Up todayAs you know, Word Up is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization. Most of our books are donated used books, and sell for no more than $5. Our revenue from book sales is only a fraction of our annual budget, and so our existence depends on individual donations, occasional program grants, as well as the in-kind generosity of hundreds of people from Washington Heights, Inwood, the rest of New York City, the US, and abroad. The Word Up family extends far beyond our collective, and continues to grow—without you, we wouldn’t be here.

We need your help to ensure that we remain strong for the long run.

Thank you for everything, and we hope to see you soon.
