On October 28, 2017, Word Up and the farm families who own Cabot Creamery Co-operative held a Volunteer Reunion and Celebration. It was great fun catching up, and introducing newer volunteers to veteran ones.
At this first Volunteer Reunion, we recognized 3 founding volunteers who have been with Word Up since before Day 1, and who are still around regularly as volunteers: Sandy Jimenez, Emmanuel Abreu, and Will Glass. We thank them, and all the volunteers, for everything they have done to make Word Up what it is.
Since our founding in 2011, we have oriented around 500 neighbors in Word Up’s operations, with a couple hundred having moved on to do regular shifts. At any given time, there are about 60 active volunteers—staffing the shop or offsite events, doing administrative roles, and more. How the shop looks, feels, and sounds can change day by day, shift by shift, depending on what combinations of people are in the room; there can be new surprises every time you enter.
Thank you to the B-corps Divine Chocolate, Fetzer Vineyards, and Cabot Creamery Co-operative for sponsoring the event; to Woke Foods and Dos Toros for catering; and to Regina Gradess for her kindness and good ideas.
