In this new collection Notes On The Return To The Island, Bonafide Rojas pays tribute, honors family & puts the lens on the current state of Puerto Rico. His poems ranging frrom United States colonialism to the creation of a fiscal control board due to the corporate government created 70 billion dollar debt to his parents’ relationship with the island. Rojas has presented a rare perspective of “Aquí/Allá (here/there) of The Nuyorican experience in The Puerto Rican Diaspora. Notes On The Return To The Island will show you what’s happening inside Puerto Rico & allow you how they see the world staring at them.
Bonafide Rojas is the author of four collections of poetry: Notes On The Return To The Island (2017), Renovatio (2014), When The City Sleeps (2012) & Pelo Bueno (2004). He’s appeared on Def Poetry Jam, been published in numerous anthologies & journals & is the vocalist/guitarist for the band The Mona Passage, who released their debut EP in 2016. He’s performed at various stages: Lincoln Center, The Brooklyn Museum, El Museo del Barrio, Bowery Ballroom, The Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, Rotterdam Arts Center, The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, BusBoys & Poets & Festival De La Palabra.
