October 8 – Story Time and Arts Workshop with Richard Lewis

story_time_breakfast_oct8_lewis_2016-01

Based on his poem and book *A Tree Lives*, illustrated by Noah Baen, Richard Lewis invites you to join him in a journey exploring and asking the tantalizing question: what does a tree know? Can it feel, can it see, can it hear? Can it, in fact, imagine? And as we explore these questions through movement and conversation, art and writing, we will attempt to discover the very tree, perhaps hidden in our own imagination, that is ourselves. For children and adults, and all those who care for the natural world, and the ways we can continue to be a part of its unfolding mysteries and wonders.

Richard Lewis is a writer, and founder and director of the Touchstone Center for Children in New York City. Begun in 1969, the Center has created numerous projects in schools, museums and environmental centers focused on the importance of the imaginative and poetic experience in learning, with particular emphasis on our relationship to the natural world.
His recent books include *I Catch My Moment: Art and Writing by Children on Life of Play*; *We Are Rivers* (illustrated by Kathy Cruetzburg); *Play, Said the Earth to Air* (illustrated by Heidi Neilson); and *From the Sleep of Waters* (illustrated by Susan Joy Share). A forthcoming book, *Enchantments of the Earth*, illustrated with photographs of the ceramic work of Carol Grocki Lewis, will be published in December.
