AMH’s Summer Salon Series is a yearly creative & critical social space in which issues related to Latino mental health and psychology are explored from an urban social justice perspective. This year’s event “Lunatic@- Bringing Voice and Awareness to Latino Mental Health” aims to combine artistic performance (spoken word by Wordat4F) and critical community discussion (panel w/ Q&A) ) in service of destigmatizing mental illness and bringing awareness to the mental health needs of the Latino community.
After a brief introduction to AMH, the mood of the night will be set by a variety of spoken word performances exploring topics such as mental illness, Latinidad and bilingualism. After an intermission, a panel discussion will resume the night by critically discussing the therapeutic and liberatory potential of bilingual spoken word and other urban arts.
