August 28 – AMH & Word@4F Present: Lunatic@- Bringing Voice and Awareness to Latino Mental Health

AMH Lunatica SS Flier Official

AMH’s Summer Salon Series is a yearly creative & critical social space in which issues related to Latino mental health and psychology are explored from an urban social justice perspective. This year’s event “Lunatic@- Bringing Voice and Awareness to Latino Mental Health” aims to combine artistic performance (spoken word by Wordat4F) and critical community discussion (panel w/ Q&A) ) in service of destigmatizing mental illness and bringing awareness to the mental health needs of the Latino community.
After a brief introduction to AMH, the mood of the night will be set by a variety of spoken word performances exploring topics such as mental illness, Latinidad and bilingualism. After an intermission, a panel discussion will resume the night by critically discussing the therapeutic and liberatory potential of bilingual spoken word and other urban arts.

Aliados for Mental Health (AMH) is a grassroots consortium founded in 2011 and organized around a central cause- bringing awareness to Latino Psychology and addressing the mental health needs of this ever-growing population. Foundational to this cause is the advancement, development and provision of socially conscious linguistically-appropriate (bilingual) mental health services to oppressed and subjugated populations such as Latino immigrants, refugees and LQBTQA.
