Join us for the opening of En Route, a new art exhibition by local artists Greg Nuñez and Cecilia Tavarez!
In this series of new works, two New York artists explore their relationship to elements of nature and take us on a journey to their earthly roots. Assemblages and paintings invite viewers to consider ideas about primal elements of nature and to question: Can we dissolve illusions of separation and reclaim our alliance with the natural world?
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Gregory Rafael Nuñez
There is a kind of shape shifting inherent in life, such as the rising and receding life cycles of ecosystems. Through animal archetypes Greg Nuñez explores these evolving versions of reality. He is interested in the spaces where these shifts intersect internally and externally and how they can sometimes reflect psychic and energetic mutations.
Greg was born in Washington Heights, New York City. Throughout his life, his family has lived and traveled between their two home countries, Dominican Republic and the United States. He graduated with a B.F.A. from Parsons School of Design/The New School. He went on to earn an M.A. in Art Education from the City College of New York and has been teaching art in public schools for 16 years. He currently resides in Inwood and continues to create artworks in painting, drawing and mixed media.
Cecilia Ines Tavarez
Her source of inspiration for this new body of work comes from a love of nature as well as her travel experiences in Hawaii and Peru where she did volunteer work at various retreat centers. She has been exploring her interests in indigenous cultures and traditions, shamanism, spirituality and has been doing her own healing work with plant medicines, which has had a big impact on her work.
Cecilia is a rediscovered artist, who is a native New Yorker, raised in Washington Heights and is of Dominican descent. She began her formal art training at the High School of Art & Design, has taken coursework at Fashion Institute of Technology and studied abroad at Altos de Chavon, Parsons in Dominican Republic. Presently, she is attending CUNY City College and working on earning her B.A. in Studio Arts.
