Author Lisa Wilde and Wildcat alumni will be presenting Yo, Miss: A Graphic Look at High School, Wilde’s graphic book about the NYC second-chance high school, Wildcat Academy, where she’s taught for the past 17 years. Described by the Miami Herald as “breathtaking,” Yo, Miss gives voice to the students who attend Wildcat, challenges preconceptions about who they are, and shows the importance of these kinds of schools. There will be a reading with images from the book, followed by discussion and Q&A with the Wildcat alumni.
Lisa Wilde has been teaching English at J.V.L.Wildcat Academy since 1997. Prior to that she worked for the BBC. Wilde’s work has appeared in Show & Tell: A Collection of Comics About Teaching and Learning, The Writing Disorder – A Literary Journal, Kugelmass: A Journal of Literary Humor, Grace Institute, and other venues. She has also given Yo, Miss performances at Brooklyn Brain Frame and the Brooklyn Historical Society.
