The Urban Innovations Project—a project of Job Path, in collaboration with AHRC, and which supports individuals with developmental disabilities to connect and contribute in their community—is hosting an evening of creativity and community this Friday at Word Up, featuring the Poets of Corsi, a Harlem-based writing collective who are driven by the desire to create, challenge, communicate and collude in the dismantling of all outdated notions of “ability”; and Zulu P, busting limiting beliefs about disability wide open with their unique blend of hip hop and R’n’B.
The event is part of the People’s State of the Union: In tandem with one hundred other story circles happening across the country, we the people will sit, talk, and share our visions of a more perfect union for ourselves and our community. Our shared stories will be incorporated into the 2015 People’s State of the Union Address, to be performed at the Bowery Poetry Club on February 1, 2015.
