Sunday: Sacco and Vanzetti Remembrance, with Marc Shanker

The next exhibition at the Word Up gallery calls attention to Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti—the anarchists who were the subject of a controversial trial and who were ultimately executed on August 23, 1927—through portraits and artwork by Inwood resident Marc Shanker. The opening reception is this Sunday, 3–5 PM.

A few weeks from now, on Sunday, August 24, 3–5 PM, Professor George Stevens and Marc Shanker will host a discussion of the historical period surrounding the case. There will also be a dramatic reading of selections of  Sacco and Vanzetti’s prison letters by David Margulies and Jim Jack, as well as music by Adam Hart and a presentation by Edwin Grimsley from The Innocence Project.

All proceeds from art sales will benefit The Innocence Project and Word Up Community Bookshop.
