2 NEW Indiegogo perks from Word Up!

We are excited to announce 2 additional perks in the final hours of our crowdfunding campaign to bring back Word Up Community Bookshop to Washington Heights. Help us meet our goal and receive some fabulous new goodies by making a tax-deductible contribution before our January 1 deadline:

  • The first 3 contributors who make a new donation of $150 or more and write DAY PLANNER in the comments section on our Indiegogo site receive a day planner designed and hand-illustrated by our very own Veronica Liu. These unique, hand-drawn planners are so lovely and sought after she receives regular requests from friends and strangers. If you use a day planner, or if it’s your New Year’s resolution to be more organized, we suggest you do it in style. But hurry! She can only do 3 by the end of the first week of January.   • And for new contributions of $40 or more, we invite you to join us for a Word Up donor reception at La Casa Azul Bookstore in East Harlem. Only 50 spots are available! You can select this option in our perk section today—here’s the full perk description: “BOOK LOVE: Join us for a summertime reception, complete with literary readings and music, in the beautiful backyard of La Casa Azul Bookstore in East Harlem. Our friends at La Casa Azul Bookstore have graciously allowed us to use their gorgeous, outdoor space to celebrate and strengthen uptown BOOK LOVE. Book Love


We’ve got book love. We’ve got bookshop love. And we have 4 days left of our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to bring back our beloved bookshop filled with books! We’re steadily making our way to our goal of $60,000. Your contribution is tax-deductible and will go toward reviving a space that is cherished by so many of us.

Word Up isn’t the only book-loving space we cherish—you can check out other great uptown lit hangouts in our BOOK LOVE video—then please contribute by January 1 to add Word Up to the mix!

With the end of our Indiegogo campaign just hours away, we are so grateful to announce that our deadline has been extended to January 1. That leaves us with 9 more days to reach our goal of $60,000. (We’re at $43,480 at the time of this posting.) Thank you so much to Indiegogo and to all the generous people who have already donated to our campaign. Please spread the word and the holiday spirit, and help us make the very most of this extension. We can do it!

United Palace of Cultural Arts matching grant: granted!

Not even a week ago, we announced in our newsletter and on Facebook and Twitter that the United Palace of Cultural Arts was offering a challenge grant: if we could raise at least another $5,000 before the end of the campaign, the United Palace of Cultural Arts would MATCH that with their own contribution of $5,000.

We have since reached the amount we needed to qualify for the UPCA’s $5000 matching grant. Thank you to our supporters for being so responsive, and thank you to the UPCA for presenting that challenge and following through!

WE ARE GETTING CLOSER TO OUR GOAL BUT NOT QUITE THERE YET. We are almost down to the wire. At the time of this writing, we have 33 hours left in our campaign, and are at almost $41,000. Please help us pull through as we head into our last day. Remember that ALL CONTRIBUTIONS ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE!!!
