For the past several weeks, Word Up has hosted Open Mics Nights on Wednesdays and Fridays at 6pm. At first, the Wednesday night sessions tended toward the literary, and the Friday nights tended toward the musical, but really, after a while, who needs to differentiate? You can rock the mic in any way you want on either night–dress up, dress down, strut your stuff, and show us what you’ve been working on in your corner of the Heights. Beyond-Uptowners are welcome too! Show us what you’ve got!
Above are photos by Art By Dj Boy from our Extension Celebration on Saturday, July 30. Stalwart volunteers Stephanie and Angela presented Elizabeth Balaguer’s Mi Carnaval / My Carnival to an audience of kids, and Ellie Little and Robin Glasser presented their own kids’s stories.
For those of you who haven’t been able to make it to the bookshop yet, and especially for those who HAVE and want to relive the energy within, check out our new video by DjBoy below.
Also: Sign our petition! To share with our neighbors and other community leaders in Northern Manhattan our desire to have a permanent bookshop uptown, sign the petition here.
Astroturf in a bookshop?! Well, this ain’t just any bookshop. Putt Up at Word Up is a mini-golf extravaganza, with local artists and kids designing each hole. All proceeds will go toward covering operational expenses for Word Up.
Music, commentary, and audience reactions will be recorded and webcast live both days on Washington Heights Free Radio.
WIN RAFFLE PRIZES—like Yankees tickets!—generously donated by local businesses:

ONE of these amazing prizes will be given away on Twitter, so make sure you are following @WordUpBooks to win.
